United Way values its partnership with nearly 50,000 central Iowans who contribute
each year. In 2003, the average gift was $4 per week. You can rely on expert
volunteers to guarantee your gift is invested locally to make the greatest
impact. These volunteers are people like you investors who want every
gift to be wisely spent.
United Way carefully reviews funded programs to ensure they are producing
results and using funds effectively and with integrity.
Please consider giving directly to the United Way Fund. An undesignated gift
helps implement the United Way Community Impact Agenda, which is focused on
measurable results for the issues that are most important to central Iowans.
Unfortunately, gifts directed to a specific agency through donor choice are
not reviewed by United Way or held accountable for results by our volunteers.
United Way respects your generosity by keeping fundraising and administrative
costs at just 10 percent, which is significantly below the national average.
This means that 90 percent of your gift to the United Way Fund is invested
in services making a positive impact in our community.

United Way of Central Iowa Leadership
Circle
In partnership with United Way, Leadership Circle members are
catalysts for making a positive difference in peoples lives today and
strengthening our community for tomorrow.
At United Way, we recognize that behind every contribution is a very personal,
very powerful commitment to human need. Our commitment to you is to ensure
that every charitable dollar works harder and goes farther through United
Way than through any other organization.
The spirit of private giving for public purposes has been a vital ingredient
in American life, and today we have newfound renewal of that spirit. Leadership
Circle contributors invest $1,000 to $1 million or more each year in United
Way of Central Iowa.

Women's Leadership Initiative
The vision of the Womens Leadership Initiative is to recognize
and promote philanthropic giving and volunteer leadership in United Way among
women. United Way is developing this initiative to strengthen the involvement
of this dynamic and successful population in United Ways mission. By
engaging women through the Womens Leadership Initiative for Early Childhood,
critical early childhood investments can occur at an accelerated pace. Additionally,
women are leading the way toward strong community impact with our most important
citizens the young children who need our commitment for them to be
successful in school and in life.
Nothing concerns us more in our community than the plight of children in need.
It is a community tragedy when any child is not given the opportunity to live
up to his or her fullest potential. We want to make sure everyone has a chance
to succeed in school and in life.
To make this happen, we need to be as generous as we can with time and money.
But the problems are so complex. How do we know our personal contribution
and efforts are really making a difference?
By engaging women, critical early childhood investments can occur at an accelerated
pace while giving women the opportunity to champion and lead in achieving
this significant community impact.
